Somboon Dee Seafood, Phyathai Road, Bangkok
Although the reviews of this restaurant on the internet are short
of appalling, I had a surprisingly good
meal here last month.
The restaurant is next to the station and offers an ice-cold Chang or Singha
to a ‘hot and thirsty’ traveller.
First impression was the ‘cleanliness’ of the tanks and fresh seafood and as this
is not ‘always the case’ in Bangkok, well done!
The food is very fresh indeed an I opted for salmon sashimi to
start followed by river prawns which were succulent, huge and tasty.
Although the prices were steep
(2 Singha, sashimi, prawns total 1,424.00 Bht)
according to Bangkok standards –
they were not internationally.
If I had any complaint it would be the exuberance
of my waiter in
trying to procure a bigger tip
than I was happy to pay!
Although I would not return in a hurry
as there are hundreds of very good Thai restaurants to try out,
‘in their defence’ the food was not a bad experience!
